This is part of a series of blogs on the Application of God’s Armor.
In James 4:13-17 we are told, “Look here, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.’ How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, ‘If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.’ Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil. Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.”
We are warned about being self-reliant in our plans when we don’t acknowledge dependence on our Lord. We may think we have it all figured out. After all we like to be self-sufficient. What can possibly go wrong? But when things do go wrong it’s usually something we didn’t anticipate. Some unplanned consequence. When it’s just us we are personally devastated!
It’s good to plan. Take time to research and think about what you will do and how you will do it. Pray to the Lord and ask for wisdom. Seek council from other believers to confirm your plan. And when you have a good plan, execute it with confidence trusting in the Lord for the outcome. The circumstances of life are often out of our control. The outcomes are often not what we expect. We must trust in the Lord to guide us no matter what the outcome. Then when the outcome is unpleasant, the Lord is with us to help us through it.
When we approach each circumstance with faith in the Lord, He will lead us through any outcome we encounter; shaken not stirred.
