The Righteousness of God

In Ephesians 6:14 the Apostle Paul told believers to put on the “body armor of God’s righteousness” to help them stand their ground. The objective of a Roman soldier’s enemy was to stop them from fighting by killing them or causing enough injury to incapacitate them. The Roman soldier used a breast plate to protect their vital organs during combat. This allowed them to take blows from their enemy without harm so they could continue the fight.

In the same way when a believer lives a life with integrity and honor according to the righteousness of God, the enemy will not be able to find a weakness to exploit that will incapacitate the believer’s witness. When we embrace His wisdom, we can live with the same integrity and honor that models the righteousness of God; sometimes shaken but not stirred away from what is morally right.

In thinking about how the righteousness of God could be a useful piece of our armor, I was led to the following ideas on this topic:

1. Wisdom has been around awhile,

2. Wisdom calls out,

3. Wisdom is worth it,

4. Wisdom is good judgement,

5. Wisdom gives life, and

6. Focusing on the sin and not the punishment
