This is the fourth in a series of blogs on The Good News as a part of the Armor of God.
The Bible is God’s inspired word to us, and He shares His plan for us in it. The Bible is the ultimate instruction manual for His creation. So why did God bother to give us His word? Because He wants us to know Him better. The book of Colossians describes how God adopted us as His children and gave us an inheritance that He reserves for us in heaven. This inheritance is for the long haul. It demonstrates that He wants a relationship with us that will endure throughout eternity. This is Good News!
So, what is the bottom line in following the instructions from our heavenly Father? It’s realizing that it is important enough and valuable enough to change our life habits and focus our attention and activities on continuously obtaining Godly instructions, wisdom, understanding, and insight. And if this is the focus of our attention, then we will grow in our knowledge of God. God wants us to know Him better and better. He wants us to get close to Him. He wants to have a relationship with us that lasts forever!
In Proverbs 2:5 we are told, “Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.” As we immerse ourselves in God’s word, our comprehension of Him grows along with our respect for Him. To “fear the Lord” is recognition that God is far greater than us and way beyond us. We learn that He is able to influence every aspect of our lives in ways that we can’t possibly understand in total. In Psalms 145:3 it says, “Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness.”
In Proverbs 2:6-8 we are told, “For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.” It is a growth process as we mature in our knowledge of God. God will reward those who are faithful to him; shaken not stirred.
