He Gives Good Examples to Follow

This is the sixth in a series of blogs on The Good News as a part of the Armor of God.

In John 13:14-15 Jesus said, “And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.” God filled His word with an abundance of good examples, including Himself. These are also compared with bad examples so we can clearly see the difference between right and wrong. This is Good News!

So, it is not surprising that the father writing to his children in Proverbs 2 ends with the exhortation to follow good examples when he said, “So follow the steps of the good, and stay on the paths of the righteous. For only the godly will live in the land, and those with integrity will remain in it. But the wicked will be removed from the land, and the treacherous will be uprooted.”

This is very good advice. We must study God's word to learn about Him, but we must also fellowship with other believers to grow in every way that God intended for us. It's one thing to have a head knowledge. But fellowship with believers puts that head knowledge into action. It also provides a forum for accountability to ensure consistency in instruction and follow through.

Fellow believers can counsel you in personal and business relationships, warn you when you begin to stray, encourage you through difficult times, and rejoice with you as you grow in the richness of the knowledge of God; shaken not stirred.
