This is part of a series of blogs on the Application of God’s Armor.
In Ephesians 6:14 the Apostle Paul told believers to put on the “body armor of God’s righteousness” to help them stand their ground. The more we learn about and apply the wisdom of God, the stronger our body armor becomes. Because The righteousness of God is revealed through His wisdom.
It should be clear that just knowing about God’s wisdom is not enough. The Roman soldier knew about the body armor he was given, but if he didn’t wear it there was no protection. If we want God’s protection, we need to put God first and wear the “body armor of God’s righteousness.” We need to apply the wisdom God gives us.
In James 4:1-10 we are told to put God first. In verses 1-3 we are reminded about the consequences of befriending the world’s wisdom. Then in verse 4 we are told that, “friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. The solution is given in verses 7-10, “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.”
We can follow the wisdom of the world or we can follow the wisdom of God. Following the world’s wisdom leads to quarrels, fights, and evil desires that lead to our unhappiness. Following the Lord and being loyal to Him helps us live righteously and leads us to true happiness; shaken not stirred.
